Temporary mission
You will be responsible for:
• Assuming responsibility for own translation projects through planning and scheduling, pre-processing of documents, following up on and tracking documents received for translation or editing during all stages of the process, from the point of entry to the point of exit, and ensuring that set deadlines are respected.
• Preparing texts for translation into several languages: analysing/checking texts, including pre- and post-processing as well as finding and attaching reference material.
• Preparing and following up on large projects into all EU and other languages, dealing simultaneously with in-house and external translators. Monitoring the entire workflow of such projects from editing, translation, revision – dealing with multiple new versions – to proofreading and close of project.
• Finalizing translation projects by ensuring that language versions are correctly formatted, complete and without formal mistakes (names, numbers etc.) and by updating translation memories for outsourced languages.
• Supervising the translation workflow in close interaction with the Linguistic Services Division’s clients on the one hand and the translators themselves (in-house and external) on the other.
• Negotiating deadlines with clients and consulting them in case of conflicting deadlines.
• Correcting, where necessary, data input into the workflow management tool, thus contributing to reliable statistics.
• Participating in the continuous improvement of the Division’s procedures, in particular in parts concerning the Production Management Unit.
• Occasionally carrying out spot-checks of translations into his/her native language if other than English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Typical background:
• Secondary level education, complemented with a 2-year certification in a relevant field (e.g. secretarial studies, business administration) or secondary level education with equally qualified experience in a relevant field.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a translation environment (experience with workflow management would be an asset).
• Thorough knowledge of computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools (preferably the SDL Studio suite) is a requirement.
• Excellent formatting skills: proficient in Word, good knowledge of Excel, basic knowledge of Powerpoint, experience with converting pdf files for translation purposes.
• Good knowledge of standard office tools and enthusiasm to learn how to use new IT tools such as the applications specific to LING (Plunet workflow management system).
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and good command of French. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
